Those of you who know me well know that I'm not adverse to firing off a Letter to the Editor of the Irish Independent and finding it published. There's an art to finding the balance of concise, topical outrage or observation, and I seem to have a knack for it.
These days, though, I feel I need an entire opinion column. There is just SO MUCH GOING WRONG IN THE WORLD.
We were most unusually awakened by our near-teenage daughter this morning at 1:30am. I suppose I thought I was fast asleep but as soon as the problem was resolved (by my wife) I was wide awake. My mind was going a million miles a minute with so many topics I couldn't keep up. It occurred to me around 2:30am that maybe what I wanted to do was lead a revolution.
Maybe it was listening to the Hamilton soundtrack on my trip up and down to Dublin at the weekend. Maybe it was an idea I set a friend off to think about an idea I had to help Americans express their outrage at the absolute outrageousness that is going on with POTUS and the entire executive branch. Maybe it was something I read in yesterday's paper about increasing the carbon tax and lowering the motorway speed limits as a way to reduce our carbon footprint.
Whatever it was, at 2:50am I was sitting down at my computer, and registering this domain. And then before work, and again after work, I've created this website and blog.
At the very least, it will give me an outlet through which ideas I have to help make Ireland an even better place for us to live might be expressed.
Ideally, well...I want a (bloodless) revolution. One that will completely upend the political systems we have in place that are tying us to our industrial past and preventing us from moving forward into the future.
We'll see where this goes...it is now off to press :)
